Backgroud and Objectives Arterial stiffness measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV) is an emerging risk factor of cardiovascular diseases or events. The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between arterial stiffness and the result of treadmill exercise test (TMT). Methods A total of 291 patients who performed TMT were divided into two groups according to the results of TMT; positive group (group I, 59 patients, 57.5±9.1 years, 38 males) versus negative group (group II, 232 patients, 55.4±9.7 years, 165 males). PWV at various sites and ankle brachial index (ABI) were measured using commercially available VP 2000 pulse wave analysis system (Colins, Japan) before TMT. Results The results of PWV at various sites and ABI between the groups were summarized as table. Heart-femoral PWV (HFPWV) and brachial-ankle PWV (BAPWV) were significantly increased in group I than in group II. However, heart-carotid PWV (HCPWV) and femoral-ankle PWV (FAPWV) were not different between the groups. ABI was significantly decreased in group I than in group II. Conclusion The results of this study suggest that arterial dysfunction measured by PWV and ABI are significantly associated with the positive result of TMT.
