Background: Statins has been regarded as a long-term strategy to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with stable coronary artery disease. This study was to evaluate the effect of statins on short-term and midterm prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Korean Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR).
Methods: In the present study, a total 8,578 AMI patients were enrolled in the KAMIR from September 2005 to Dec 2006. We compared the short-term and midterm clinical outcomes of a total 8578 AMI patients treated with statins (n=5675, 66.2%) to the AMI patients without statins n=2903, 33.8%)
Results: KAMIR, a multicenter, real-world prospective registry of 51 high-volume Korean PCI centers. Baseline & procedural characteristics were worse in No Statin group whereas biochemical profiles were worse in the Statin group (Table). Although major in-hospital complications were significantly lower in the Statin group, the major adverse cardiac events (MACEs; death, myocardial infarction and repeat revascularization) were not different between the two groups up to 6 months (Table).
Conclusion: Although early statin administration in pts with AMI in Asian population was beneficial in reducing in-hospital complications and positively affect on the procedural success, it failed to show the improved mid-term clinical outcomes.
