Background: The long-term safety of drug-eluting stent is still uncertain. Methods: This study was designed as a multicenter prospective randomized study comparing VISION stent (group V) and TAXUS stent (group T). Inclusion criteria were 1) stable or unstable angina or silent ischemia 2) treated lesion number���2 in separate vessels 3) target lesion stenosis is 50 - 95%, 3) native vessel stentable with at least 3.0-4.0 mm stent, and 4) lesions fully covered by one stent (length���28 mm). Two-year clinical follow-up was performed by medical record review and telephone visit. Results: Total 481 patients from 11 centers in Korea were included in this study (group V N=240, group T N=241). Average follow-up duration was 863짹249 days. Overall baseline clinical and angiographic characteristics were similar between group V and group T, except that group T was associated with lower average age (V 63.4짹10.5 years, T 61.4짹11.0 years, p=0.04) and higher proportion of left anterior descending artery location (V 34.6%, T 51.0%, p<0.001). The incidences of death or myocardial infarction, definite or probable stent thrombosis were similar between 2 groups at 1 year and 2 year after the procedure. Conclusion: Paclitaxel-eluting stent is associated with lower mid-term target vessel revascularization rate compared to bare metal stent even in the low risk patients, but the benefit seems to be reduced in the longer term follow-up. The long-term safety profile seems to be similar between 2 groups.
