Background:Although recent lipid-lowering agents were effective in reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)level,many patients treated with lipid-lowering therapy may not achieve target LDL-C goals,even in high risk patients.Aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of atorvastatin and simvastatin plus ezetimibe with usual dose on reducing lipid level and achieving target LDL-C goals in patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS). Methods:Total of 79 consecutive patients with ACS who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention were enrolled.All patients were randomly assigned to simvastatin plus ezetimibe with10/20mg/d or atorvastatin with10mg/d.Target LDL-C goal was defined as LDL-C of<70mg/dl at follow-up.The follow-up plasma lipid data were obtained after 8 weeks of treatment.Results:Baseline plasma lipid data were similar between the2groups. Patients with achieving target LDL-C goal was observed in 64%of the simvastatin plus ezetimibe group and 40%of atorvastatin group at 8-week follow-up(p=0.043).Compared with atorvastatin group,the simvastatin plus ezetimibe group showed a significantly greater reduction in LDL-C,non-HDL-C and a trend toward to a greater reduction in total cholesterol,Apo A-1 as shown in the table below. Conclusion:In ACS paitients,simvastatin plus ezetimibe with 10/20mg/d for 8weeks showed a significantly higher rate of achieving target LDL-C goal than atorvastatin with 10mg/d.Furthermore,simvastatin plus ezetimibe offered more favorable effects in reducing lipid level than atorvastatin.
