Background: Despite of an amazing reduction of restenosis rate after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stent (DES), complex lesions like very long lesion are remained as unsolved problem. The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term outcomes after PCI with DES in very long (> 60 mm) de novo coronary lesion, and to compare the efficacy between sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) and paclitaxel-eluting stent (PES).
Methods: One hundred thirty nine patients (338 DESs) were consecutively enrolled in this study since April 2003 to July 2006. All the patients were divided into two groups: group 1 - SESs, group 2 - PESs. One year clinical outcomes and angiographic follow-up results were analyzed.
Results: Major adverse cardiac events (MACE) rate was 5.3% in all patients (death: 3.4%, myocardial infarction: 1.7%, revascularization: 4.2%). Other data are shown in the following figure.
Conclusions: The clinical outcomes after PCI with DES in very long de novo coronary lesion were quite acceptable. SES showed a tendency of lower restenosis. However, there was no difference in clinical outcomes between the two types of DES
