Background; Cypher^짰 sirolimus-eluting(SES) and Taxus^TM paclitaxel-eluting stents(PES) are known to have similar clinical and angiographic outcomes. We analyzed all patients who received SES or PES retrospectively.
Methods; A total of 949 patients who underwent either SES or PES implantation in our hospital from January 2003 to December 2005, evaluated by medical records and vital statistics supplied by statistics Korea. Primary endpoint was a composite of all cause death, myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization and target vessel revascularization during 5 years after the procedure.
Results: During 5 years after the procedures, the primary end point occurred in 248 cases(26.1%), where composite end point(SES 27.6% vs PES 20.2% p= 0.31) and all cause death(SES 16% vs PES 10.8%, p=0.04 ) were observed in SES and PES group respectively.
Conclusion; Despite higher rate of all cause death occurred in SES group, composite end point, MI, TLR, TVR were not significantly different between SES and PES group.
