BACKGROUND: RVOT Ventricular premature complexes (VPCs) are known to be associated with Left ventricular dysfunction.
AIMS: to assess the relationship of the total amount of RVOT VPC amount and atrial dysfunction.
METHODS: Three groups (group A:22 patients, group B:22 patients, group C: 16 patients) were retrospectively collected according to the percentage of PVCs on the 24hour holter monitoring (group A: >10%, group B: <20% and ≥10%, group C: ≥20%). We measured and compared p wave parameters (maximal p wave, minimal p wave, p wave dispersion) on the 12 lead electrocardiogram by loupe with 7 times magnificancy and echocardiographic findings.
RESULTS: Outflow tract ventricular premature beat amount is significantly associated with maximal P wave duration (105±10 vs 112±12 vs 118±11, p=0.01 ) ,minimal P wave duration (76±10 vs 86±14 vs 83±13, p=0.03) and a trend for increased p wave dispersion (29±12 vs 27±11 vs 35±11, p=0.16). E/E' is more increased with group C than group B (9.6+3.2 vs 8.2+3.7 vs 12.1+4.8 p=0.01).
CONCLUSIONS: Increased amount of RVOT ventricular premature beats affects on atrial electrical dysfunction.
