Background Stress induced cardiomyopathy (SCMP) has been reported with increased frequency. However, there have not been any datas about predictors of in-hospital mortality and complete recovery of LV function and wall motion in patients with SCMP. Methods Between November 2004 to November 2010, 155 patients, who fulfill the clinical diagnosis criteria for SCMP, were enrolled retrospectively from 8 medical centers in Korea. We evaluated in-hospital deaths and compared initial regional wall motion score index (WMSI) with 5 짹 2 days follow up WMSI in echocardiogram. 55 continous variables and 52 nominal variables were anaylyzed to find variables associated with in-hospital mortality and recovery of WMSI. Of them, 5 predictor variables were entered into multivariate analysis for in-hospital mortality and recovery of WMSI. Results: Mean age was 64짹15 years and 118 (76.1%) patients were men. In-hospital mortality rate was 5.2% (n=8) and 85.5% (n=94) of 110 patients who performed follow up echocardiogram experienced partial (n=72, 76.6%) or complete (n=22, 23.4%) recovery of WMSI. Predictors of recovery of WMSI in univariate analysis are initially smaller left ventricular end systolic diameter(LVEDD), higher WMSI, larger left ventricular anterior wall thickness, the presence of chest pain and the absence of arrhythmic events. There were none of predictors of in-hospital mortality. And there are none of predictors of recovery of WMSI after multivariate analysis Conclusion : Initially smaller left ventricular chamber size, the presence of chest pain, and the absence of arrhythmic events in patients with SCMP may be predictors of timely recovery of myocardial dysfunction.
