Introduction: Carotid IMT is surrogate markers of cerebro-cardio vascular event (CCVE) in old age. We evaluated whether thickened carotid IMT in young patients predicts the future event(CCVE) by the large cohort long-term follow-up data. Method: Among the 3920 patients (male: female=2527:1393,mean age=65±19), Long-term outcomes of relative young age(<50 years) were analyzed. Total 315 patients(mean age= 42±7 years, male=76.3%) were divided into quartile groups along the right maximal and mean carotid IMT. Mean follow up duration was 41±17months. CCVE were including the stroke, cardiac death, nonfatal myocardial infarction. We compare the incidence of CCVE between the highest and lowest quartile groups during the follow-up period. Results: The range of right maximal and mean IMT in the four quartile groups(IQR) were showed (table 1). Kaplan-Meier Survival analysis showed that there were no significant differences in CCVE between highest and lowest IQR groups Conclusion: Carotid IMT was not predictive of future cerebro -cardiovascular events in the relatively young patients. Clinical significance of carotid IMT in the young patients might be different from elderly patients
